Greetings to the Board Members, Brothers, Sisters and Supporters of OCL,
I hope and pray that your summer has been peaceful and productive. It is a very interesting time in which we live, quite different from the times in our recent past. We have uncertainty and unrest with the global economy in turmoil, we have too many who are either unemployed or underemployed, we have division and disharmony from our political leaders, we have environmental damage that is threatening whole ecosystems and ways of life. I know these conditions weigh heavily on the minds and hearts of most Americans, including our members.
However, it is a time of great hope for the mission of OCL and Orthodoxy in America. OCL's mission of Unity, Transparency, Accountability, and Laity involvement in the governance of the AmericanChurch , has been consistent and unchanging. For the first time in our history, it appears that the actions and initiatives of the Old World patriarchs are much closer to being in harmony with our mission. This harmony was manifested by the recent Episcopal Assembly of the great majority of Orthodox bishops in North America barely more than one month ago. Now we must continue to pray that the Spirit will guide the hierarchs to do the right things to create canonical order and an autocephalous Orthodox Church in America.
I believe OCL has played a major role in keeping light on this subject over the past 22+ years. We have done it with a small budget and the hard work of volunteers and our very small staff. We have been self-funded and have certainly gotten a big bang for the bucks we have at our disposal. We must continue in our efforts. This requires the financial support of our Board members and supporters. I am sorry we must appeal to you to help us through this tough financial stretch that we are presently experiencing, but we are in dire need of your help. I understand that times are tough. I would ask that you consider the importance of OCL's mission and successes and do whatever you can to provide the financial support that will keep OCL moving forward as the primary independent voice for Orthodox unity in America . I promise you that your gift will be used wisely to continue shining the light on our cause. I thank you in advance for your support. God Bless all.
In His Service,
Bill Souvall, OCL President
